Wedding Wednesday-Finding the perfect dress-Amanda and Chad Photography

Wedding Wednesday

Feb 11, 2019

We are conquering to-do lists this week and so far we are off to a good start!!  There are a lot of things that just HAVE to get done and that we want to accomplish!  We really wanted to start posting something wedding related on Wednesdays!  If that wasn’t an actual wedding itself, we wanted it to be educational, but helpful and easy!!  Welcome to our first Wedding Wednesday post of 2019!!  Here are some tips on how to find the perfect wedding dress and how to know when you actually have found it!!  The dress is a HUGE part of your wedding day and some girls even grow up absolutely DREAMING of finding the perfect dress they want!!  I (Amanda) personally, was the opposite and didn’t have any idea as to what I wanted.  However, it was one of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning!!  I am a girly girl and love to dress up!  So, of course, it was one of my favorite parts!!  When I went to the bridal boutique, I found out very quickly that there were so many options to choose from!  Mermaid, A-line, Ball gown, and the list just keeps going!  The wedding dress that I ultimately ended up choosing was the first dress I tried on and I just wanted to keep on wearing it!  However, I tried on multiple others since I thought the very first dress I tried couldn’t possibly be it!  But, it was!!  I am glad that I decided to try on others, though, because it was a blast!!  So, go try on and have fun!! 🙂

Ok, so here are some tips on how to find the perfect wedding dress for YOU and how to know when you have actually found it for all of you engaged gals out there! 🙂
1. Be sure to try different styles
Try on styles that you didn’t originally think you would love because you may be surprised to find that you like a totally different style than what you had imagined! Even try styles that you normally would not gravitate towards!
2. Don’t give up!
If this isn’t the first round of dress shopping that’s totally fine!! I promise you will find the perfect dress!! Don’t give up and keep on going. We have heard of girls not finding the one until they were on their 5th shopping trip!! Sometimes, it just takes time.
3. Call ahead for an appointment!
A lot of engaged brides don’t even realize that you don’t just walk in a bridal boutique and try on whatever. Making an appointment is always better!
4. Know the difference.
It’s important to know the difference between ivory and white. Pure white dresses actually do not photograph as well as off-white. AND, if you can add in another color such as pale pink… OH MY GOODNESS!!! SO AMAZING! Sometimes pure white dresses will photograph with a “blue” tint to them because they are so white. We can adjust this in post-processing but having an off white dress can still make a huge difference in your images and be much more flattering to your skin tone!

5. Make it a fun adventure!!

Invite your friends and family and make a day out of it!  Devote the whole day to shop for your wedding dress!! If it gets too overwhelming, find a place to go out to eat and try another time!

6. Don’t be afraid to alter a dress!
If you find a dress you love that doesn’t fit just right you can always talk about getting it altered. For instance, if you are pulling up on your dress but it’s absolutely perfect in every other way, you can fix it! Let’s say you love a sweetheart neckline but the dress has an over-the-shoulder strap…you can simply ask the seamstress to take that strap off! Make your dress your own!! Even add some fun accessories such as veils, broaches, beaded sashes and love it all!!
7.  Make sure you know how to bustle your dress before you leave the final fitting!
It’s important that you have someone with you at the final fitting who will be by your side on your wedding day. Whether it’s your mother, sister, or maid of honor, make sure they know how to bustle your dress! Trust us, you don’t want to try to figure this out for the first time at your wedding!   Make sure your planner also has some safety pins just in case!!

8. Make sure you pick a dress that you are comfortable in!

You don’t want to feel like you have been poured into your dress. There needs to be room to breathe and sit down! After all, you will be wearing it for a good portion of the day and you don’t want to be uncomfortable. This is especially important if you are having a summer wedding!

9. Take pictures.

You will want to take photos of yourself in all of your favorite dresses! Pictures will help you see it differently than the way it looks in the mirror! This is important because you want to know exactly how your dress will look on you from all angles. Don’t forget to delete the photos because you don’t want to sit and obsess over the dresses you didn’t choose!

10. Enjoy this whole process and have fun!!

It’s supposed to be fun so don’t worry so much about impressing others, and just know that you are shopping for the dress of your dreams!

We hope you found these tips helpful!! If you have anything that you would like some tips on just let us know and we will add it to our Wedding Wednesday posts!

With love,

Amanda & Chad
