7 TIPS FOR PLANNING YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

1. Book your engagement session date early!

-at least 3-6 months in advance is a good time to book your session in order to avoid stress.

2. It is best to nail down an engagement session location early as well!

– If you plan to have your session done at a location that also hosts weddings and events those tend to book up dates well in advance. In addition, if you are planning on having your engagement session done during a prime wedding months (May, June, August, September, and October are the most popular, but December here recently has also become popular due to the Christmas & New Years holidays) you  may want to consider a weekday shoot as venues are typically booked on weekends during those times of years.

3. What time of day works best?
– We typically shoot from 5-7pm depending on light and the time of year. It really depends upon sunset times since the best light is around 2-3 hours before the sun sets. So for instance, in the winter months 3-5pm would be a good time.

4. Be on time!

– The sun is only out for so long! The later you arrive, the less time we have to shot and nobody wants that!

5. Clean off that beautiful engagement ring!

-I love shooting ring shots while you change outfits..so the cleaner the better!
6. Your outfits!

-Try to pick outfits and accessories that coordinate instead of match. If you both had the exact same color on, it just wouldn’t work as well. Be bold with your accessories too!(Scarves, bold necklaces, fun shoes) Graphics are not favorable for portraits. If you plan on a pattern, make sure it’s not overwhelming and distracting. Be sure to empty your pockets before the shoot!

If you are having trouble or would like my advice just send me a photo of what you are considering and I will help out! Or you can check out my pinterest board titled “CLIENTS: What to wear” for some inspiration.

7. Relax!

-Last but most certainly not least relax! 🙂 You can honestly do no wrong! You don’t have to be a pro at posing and I will help you along the way. I will make it as fun and relaxing as possible! Enjoy this time with your fiance. Maybe make a date night after it by going out to dinner afterwards to celebrate?
