Importance of a Second Shooter

Wedding Wednesday

Jun 10, 2015

I cannot stress to you enough how important a second shooter is! I am very blessed to have Chad at the majority of weddings shooting with me! We offer a second shooter in ALL of our wedding packages! Wedding days are very special, only happen once and you only have a certain amount of time to capture it…the right way.

Here recently, the importance of having extra help became even more obvious. Last year, September 2014 to be exact I cut my left eye(the eye I shoot with) cornea with a pair of tweezers 2 DAYS PRIOR to a wedding! Before I go any further I just want to say that I learned that vision is an amazing, precious thing! Going through life we typically become so busy that we don’t realize how blessed we truly are until something happens! When I cut my eye…it made me realize how amazing being able to see is. Praise God that I did not lose my vision and I am still able to do what I love..photography!

It was a very bad, deep cut and if I didn’t have Chad of course…and our wonderful friend Frances Corkill from Two Photography fly from Idaho to help us with this wedding…I KNOW for a fact it would have been even more difficult to cover.

BENEFITS TO HAVING A SECOND SHOOTER AT EVERY WEDDING

1. Second shooters means two different angles!

-Two different angles, two different perspectives of a shot

2.  More photos!

-Because you have more photographers present you will get more photos!

3. No missed opportunities!

– I absolutely love how a second shooter can capture a shot I wasn’t able to because I can’t be in two spots at one time. While I can be shooting the bride, my second shooter can be shooting the groom and the guys! 🙂

4. The Second Shooter can double as an assistant!

-When it comes to a wedding day, your second shooter can help with crowd control(for instance, when rounding people up for bridal party photos), and helping the main photographer carry bags and equipment, etc. The small things are priceless!!

5. Last but MOST CERTAINLY NOT LEAST! They can be there when you are sick or something happens.

-Which brings me back to my incident where I cut my eye! Of course I still went to the wedding and still shot photos but it was definitely hard. My eye was sensitive to light so I had to wear sunglasses the majority of the time and when I did shoot with my bad eye it was blurry. So, I didn’t know if the photos were actually sharp or not. Having a second and better yet a third shooter during the day was a life saver!! Thank you GOD for that!    Also think about you getting sick..maybe so nauseous that you just can’t shoot at all. Then your second shooter can step in and be the main photographer until you feel better! SO IMPORTANT! Not only to give you a break but it helps with the client’s experience as well! The experience is incredibly high on the list of priorities!!

So do not shoot a wedding by yourself if at all possible. PLEASE have some help there with you! You won’t regret it! I PROMISE!
